Talk for Writing: The Early Years 122L

Friday 11 February 2022 9:00AM - 3:30PM

This one day workshop offers Kindergarten/Preschool and Foundation teachers an overview of Talk for Writing in the first years of schooling. Talk for Writing is an exceptionally effective instructional approach for both oral language and early writing development. This workshop will cover the “Three Is” – Imitation, Innovation and Invention – which are the basis of the Talk for Writing approach. Participants will explore many practical strategies to develop young children as storytellers and writers through building a bank of stories, deepening understanding through play and explicit grammar and sentence level work. Non-fiction texts will be discussed as well as the importance of providing effective accurate assessment in order to track student progress across the academic year. Using examples and film clips of shared and guided writing, the course will also consider how to help children create their own imaginative stories.

Please read our vaccination requirements below.
