Talk for Reading 220AR

Wednesday 25 November 2020 9:00AM - 3:30PM

You can’t write it if you can’t say it and you can’t say it if you haven’t heard it a lot! – Pie Corbett

Strong writing skills are fed by good reading habits. This one day Talk for Reading workshop looks at teaching reading comprehension in a clear and logical sequence following Pie Corbett’s Talk for Reading process. This process is based on whole class modelling and shared reading, as well as effective guided and independent reading practices, in order to examine and explore high-quality written texts.

This approach has been developed and piloted in schools in the UK and Australia and the workshop will demonstrate key activities and teaching methods that can be immediately adopted in classrooms. The day will also target developing children’s appreciation towards quality texts and the ability to become effective and skilful readers who can read and comprehend a range of texts with increasing independence.

Presenter: Peta Collins

Peta.jpegPeta is an educational and developmental psychologist, a qualified teacher and an experienced DSF Talk for Writing trainer.  She has been closely involved in the development of DSF's Talk for Writing workshops, at both primary and secondary level, and has benefitted from the invaluable support and expertise of Pie Corbett, Dean Thompson and Maria Richards since the introduction of TfW to Australia.  Peta also uses the Talk for Writing approach in individual and small-group tuition with students of all ages who are experiencing literacy learning difficulties.

Cancellations

DSF Literacy Services has a ‘no refund’ policy. The exception would be when a Professional Learning Course had to be cancelled by the Foundation. All other requests for cancellation will be invited to re-register for another session. Late cancellation (less than 48 business hrs) will necessitate the Foundation deducting an administration fee of $25.00 and transferring the balance to another Professional Learning Course.
