Online Talk for Writing Upper Primary Years 3-6

Wednesday 25 August 2021 2:00PM - Wednesday 15 September 2021 5:30PM

Please note: this is a live session, and not a recorded webinar. Participants must be able to log on for the complete session at the advertised time/s in order to access the online workshop.

These sessions are running 2.00pm – 3.30pm AWST / 4.00pm – 5.30pm AEST

This workshop offers teachers the chance to explore the effective use of Talk for Writing in the upper primary years. Aimed at years 3-6, this workshop will provide opportunities for hands-on practice of Talk for Writing teaching strategies that move students beyond ‘hugging’ the model text. The workshop will be delivered over four 1.5 hour-long sessions, and will cover:

  • short-burst writing and how to practise tools and grammar through a model text;
  • innovation: how to use the bare-bones structure when boxing up to move away from the model while still ensuring a high-quality writing piece;
  • different ways to practise and innovate on non-fiction texts; and
  • how poetry fits into the Talk for Writing process and how to both innovate and practise tools on your poetry toolkit.

This workshop is suitable for primary school teachers who teach in year 3 – 6. Completion of the 2-Day Introduction to Talk for Writing workshop is a pre-requisite.

DSF Literacy Services has a ‘no refund’ policy. The exception would be when a Professional Learning Course had to be cancelled by the Foundation. All other requests for cancellation will be invited to re-register for another session. Late cancellation (less than 48 business hrs) will necessitate the Foundation deducting an administration fee of $25.00 and transferring the balance to another Professional Learning Course.
