In this session Paul will present all the components of a coherent plan for developing basic number facts. One component of learning basic number facts is disposition so throughout the session Paul will share activities and games to help students develop their basic fact knowledge. As basic number facts are taught in years 1 to 4 this session will be most applicable to teachers of those year levels. Ideas for helping older students will also be provided.
Dr Paul Swan
Paul is a mathematics consultant with many years of experience. His Phd involved determining how children make computation choices, mental, written or with the aid of technology. Currently he is working on developing a series of learning trajectories to support all learners and to help identify when children need extra support and what support to provide. He is the author of many books, maths software, and more recently board and card games (most of which are available from DSF Literacy Services.).
