Children with learning difficulties can experience low self-esteem, which is often related to the challenges they face at school.

However, there are many ways that parents can help to support the emotional well-being of their child including:
  • Spending one-on-one time with your child to make them feel special and appreciated
  • Highlighting your child's strengths
  • Using positive and solution-focused lanaguge when discussing the difficulties your child is facing
  • Helping your child to understand their learning difficulties or disability.

It is also important to monitor your child for any significant and long-lasting changes in their mood or behaviour, as this may indicate that they have low self-esteem or a mental health difficulty requiring additional support from a Psychologist of counsellor.
