DSF is offering a series of small group sessions in the Term 1 school holidays, designed specifically to improve a number of skills that are crucial for reading and writing; namely, knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension strategies. These three sessions are based on high quality instructional approaches, including Word Aware, Sounds~Write, and Talk for Writing. Each session will involve a range of applied activities for using this growing knowledge of vocabulary.
This course is designed for students in upper primary (Years 5 and 6) who are looking to continue improving in reading and writing. This approach offers students with language and learning difficulties an opportunity to further develop their vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension.
About the facilitator: This intervention series will be run by speech pathologist, Tina Kilpatrick. Tina has worked extensively with school-age children in the areas of language and literacy, and is dedicated to using evidence-based strategies and resources in her clinical practice. Tina is particularly passionate about using high-quality texts as a vehicle for therapy, and supporting children to transfer their learning to longer pieces of writing, to ensure a meaningful context for intervention.
