Developing a strong vocabulary is essential if children are to become successful literacy learners. Word Aware is a whole school approach which promotes vocabulary development. It is an evidence-based program which provides a structured process to help support vocabulary enrichment in all students and particularly for students with special educational needs and children with English as a second language.
In this workshop the presenters will take the participants through this fast-paced, fun and interactive workshop, and provide lots of practical ideas on how to develop vocabulary in the classroom. Attendees will leave well-equipped to start Word Aware with their students immediately.

Presenter: Courtney McNally
Courtney is a registered psychologist who has extensive knowledge in the area of learning difficulties. She has a special interest in improving the outcomes for students with learning disorders through the provision of effective literacy instruction. She is a passionate advocate for Word Aware, and has implemented the program in small group settings. She has found the program to be highly engaging and effective in developing student’s vocabulary. In addition to delivering training in Word Aware, Courtney regularly provides training in Talk for Writing and Sounds-Write.
