Term 4 Becoming a Word Detective and Writing Wizard – Students in Year 3/4

Reading and writing is a juggling act – to perform well, students need strong vocabulary knowledge, good spelling skills, firm understanding of grammar and the ability to organise their ideas logically. As a result, some students struggle to become successful readers and writers – even when they have wonderful ideas! DSF is offering a series of small group sessions during Term 4, 2019, designed specifically to improve a number of skills that are crucial for reading and writing; namely, knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension strategies. These eight sessions are based on high quality instructional approaches, including Word Aware, Talk for Writing and Sounds~Write. This course is designed for students in middle primary (Years 3 and 4) who are looking to continue developing their vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension.

Presenter: Brooke Gray 
Brooke is a primary school teacher and DSF Talk for Writing trainer. She has worked as a Phase of Learning Leader for Early Childhood and Middle Primary, and she is currently a school-based and network English Curriculum Leader. Brooke is committed to using evidence-based approaches to improve educational outcomes for all students.
