Before the 2019 Language, Literacy and Learning Conference gets underway on 4th April, teachers will have the chance to attend this exclusive pre-conference workshop.
Maria was introduced to Talk for Writing in 2007. Since then, she has worked as a teacher, using the Talk for Writing approach at a classroom level, and as a trainer of teachers. Maria works closely with Pie Corbett on numerous writing projects and frequently delivers conference presentations on the Talk for Writing approach. She is an exceptionally popular Talk for Writing trainer and runs workshops both in the UK and internationally..
This hands-on workshop will focus on two important processes of Talk for Writing: co-construction of toolkits and the art of modelling and crafting writing. By formulating toolkits together and focussing on how a writer creates effects, students learn how to apply different writing tools to engage a reader. They are then supported to apply these into their own work, with the teacher’s use of shared and guided writing. This full-day workshop will cover the formulation of a range of toolkits that support fiction and non-fiction writing and move into their application through modelled writing. It will also showcase playful writing; practising paragraphs through short burst writing and focus participants on ‘what makes a good piece of writing,’ in order to sharpen teaching and feedback. The session will end with a focus on supporting or challenging children through targeted guided group work, thus ensuring progress is continuously being made.
Note: Prior attendance at a DSF Talk for Writing two-day course is a requirement. Also – this workshop is not catered.
