Developing students’ non-fiction writing skills is critical if they are to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of subjects across the curriculum. In order to be successful, students need to tune into the language of non-fiction, and the Talk for Writing approach is ideal for this purpose. This workshop will extend teachers’ use of Talk for Writing to develop non-fiction writing skills. The key language and structural features of the six non-fiction text types will be explored, providing participants with a range of strategies – including how to create non-fiction toolkits, and activities and tips to apply in their practice. The workshop will also target poetry and how to create a poetry toolkit related to a chosen poem and prepare for innovation.
Please note: prior attendance at the two-day Talk for Writing workshop is a pre-requisite for attendees.
