Talk for Writing – focussing on reading into writing, shared writing and creative writing 219PC2

This workshop will focus on deepening participants’ understanding of the link between reading and writing, as well as the highly successful Three I’s process for teaching writing – Imitation, Innovation, and Independent Application. He will also explain the role of the fourth ‘I’ – Invention.

Participants will benefit from Pie’s exceptional knowledge as he elaborates upon teaching reading as well as the familiar process of learning a model text and drawing simultaneously on high-quality literature to teach the craft of writing. The workshop will explore how to support students to deepen their understanding of what makes good writing, and how to apply their store of language patterns and tools to different writing tasks. Strategies and techniques for moving students from dependence to independence through the Talk for Writing process will be emphasised, especially the role of shared writing.

Participants will extend their knowledge of teaching reading with the Talk for Writing process and will leave with a range of imaginative ideas for developing students’ skills as confident, creative and independent writers.

Prior attendance at a two day Talk for Writing workshop is a pre-requisite for this workshop
