Talk for Reading Masterclass 119AR

The reading that you do feeds your writing.  This training day looks at the importance of teaching reading within the Talk for Writing process.  It will cover strategies to teach vocabulary consistently and explicitly and then move into the strategic teaching of reading comprehension skills.  Finally, it will explore a variety of ideas for building a reading culture in your classrooms and your school.

Prior attendance at a two day Talk for Writing workshop is a pre-requisite for this workshop.

Presenter: Susie Hillard

Susie is a Primary and Secondary trained teacher, specialising in English and Social Sciences with experience from the UK, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. She has worked as Literacy Lead and Key Stage 2 Leader at a primary school in West London and a Leading Teacher and Middle Phase Leader at a Primary School south-east of Melbourne, assisting to guide the implementation of Talk for Writing. Susie now works as a literacy specialist at DSF, providing training, consultation and mentoring to teachers, other professionals and schools in Talk for Writing. Susie is passionate about the Talk for Writing approach after seeing the incredible achievements from students in her own classroom and the impact it has on children’s reading and writing progress at all levels.
