The Letters and Sounds program effectively targets the development of oral language, reading, spelling and written expression in the early years in addition to providing an excellent structure for remediation in upper primary and beyond. It aligns with the achievement standards outlined in the Australian Curriculum (English) and has been shown to significantly improve whole-school literacy outcomes.
This two day interactive workshop provides teachers with a working knowledge of the six phases of Letters and Sounds from the oral language activities through to reading and writing fluency. All attendees will be provided with a copy of the program plus a resource file and have the opportunity to purchase the Letters and Sounds manual at the discounted price of $36 (pre-order by email or purchase on the day of workshop).
Presenter: Margie Backhouse [BA(Ed) GradCert(LrngDiff) MEd(LrngDiff)] is a Literacy Specialist at DSF, an experienced primary school teacher, and a specialist in learning difficulties. In recent years she has lectured at Edith Cowan and Notre Dame Universities in the primary teaching program and prior to that was the Centre for Inclusive Schooling’s Learning Difficulties Team Leader at the Western Australian Department of Education.
