Improving Outcomes Through Talk for Writing: the essential role of the leadership team 219PC1

This workshop, designed specifically for school leaders, will focus on the processes that need to be initiated, developed and maintained in order to successfully introduce the Talk for Writing approach.

The material for the workshop has been refined through discussion with successful Principals and leading literacy teachers of schools who have used the approach to significantly raise attainment across all subject areas. The workshop will pay particular attention to the factors that make a difference to schools operating in areas of disadvantage. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from Matt Jarman, the Principal of Yanchep Beach Primary School. This rapidly growing school in Perth’s northern suburbs has successfully introduced Talk for Writing across all year levels, and has seen strong improvement as a result.

The focus of this workshop will be on a range of key strategies used in Talk for Writing, all of which correspond to important areas of learning embedded in the Australian curriculum.

Presenter: Pie Corbett

Pie is an English educational trainer, writer, author and poet who has written more than two hundred books. He is now best known for creating the Talk for Writing approach to learning, which is widely used within UK primary schools. He is also known for inspiring creative approaches in the classroom and has experience as a teacher, head teacher and school inspector. He regularly lectures on education both in the United Kingdom and in other parts of the world.
